Climate Types: Germany contains mainly two types of climates. Maritime and continental. The maritime climate zone is located in the northern region of Germany, by the oceans. A maritime climate consists of warmer days and cooler nights with a "sea breeze". A maritime climate is influenced by the sea, this usually results in high amounts of precipitation with warm summers, and mild winters. More inland, Germany has a continental climate zone. Continental climate zones usually experience warm summers and cold. winters. These areas will usually not experience high amounts of rainfall per year. The climate across Germany is not very uniform. It does change with elevation and how close to the sea it gets.
Seasonality: The annual range of temperature in Berlin, Germany is 20 degrees Celsius, and the annual range of temperature in Hamburg, Germany is 16 degrees Celsius. The annual range of precipitation in Berlin, Germany is 26 millimeters, and the annual range of precipitation for Hamburg, Germany is 41 millimeters. Compared to Denver, Berlin is closer is the annual range of temperature, but Hamburg is closer is the annual range of precipitation. Denver's annual range of temperature is 22 degrees Celsius, and the annual range of precipitation is 45 millimeters. These two cities in Germany experience a fairly high seasonality. They have a high seasonality because it is not the same temperature throughout the year. It changes very much. Germany often experiences a monsoon season during the summers.
I really like the map of the climate zones that you included on your blog. I think it did well to illustrate how the climate in Germany changes as you get closer to the sea or further away from the sea. Furthermore, you also did a good job in explaining how the sea itself influences climate.
ReplyDeleteI recently visited Germany for a month from June to July this year. I was in Stuttgart, Germany and based on your temperature and precipitation I can say I experience the hot weather first hand. Not only was there heat but I lot of heavy rain during my stay. When it rained it cooled down tremendously and fast. Interesting point to know, they don’t believe in air conditioning, bring your own fan in the summer. Nice Blog!
